Traditionally servers dont tip out barbacks, That's mostly a bartender thing. Although that depends on your set up. Usually bar backs help the bartenders the most so it makes sense that way, but if say you were bussing their tables All night that would be different.

How many bartenders are on a shift? Any idea their sales? It seems low to me but like I said I don't know specifics. I also work long shifts like you. But if you have a chance of moving up to bartender within a reasonable amoubt of time, it may be worth sticking it out. We pool our tips because everyone is awesome and pull our weight evenly, we have a very tightly run ship and are good friends to boot.

Money behind the bar is pooled, and at the end of the night we decide who makes what by percentages. They also have a higher hourly. At my bar the barback is basically a second bartender, but with less expertise and doing more "bitch work.

I get paid minimum, and when the season is right for a club with outdoor dance floor I make varying increments of triple digits. I barback in a very nice place. So it's pretty nice for a barback. It's a great supplement for my day job. We split the server's tip outs evenly so every bartender and barback gets an equal cut. Your barback does as much as you do for the servers. We never run with more than two bartenders and two backs, so if the bar makes say total in tips, is split between the two bartenders and is split between the backs.

So let's say 1 bartender and 1 barback work the same hours and at the end of the shift the tip pool is the bartender walks with and barback with Usually our barbacks work a double and bartenders split the shift so we all end up walking with the same amount of money. Might seem shitty, but there is a pecking order for a reason and almost every male bartender I've worked with had to barback to get behind the bar.
